Former Carolina Panthers Steve Smith changes the world one pair of shoes at a time

Many of us can impact the world. Whether it is opening the door for a stranger, giving spare change to a homeless man, or even volunteering some time to help the people in need.Former North Carolina Panthers’ wide receiver Steve Smith would take off his shoes after each one of his games, he did this to show people just how much shoes can mean to a person. Shoes not only keep our feet warm and protected, but as Forrest Gump once said, “You can tell a lot about a person by their shoes, where they go, where they’ve been…” A person in this society can now be profiled by the way they look or dress. Millions of Americans are homeless and without shoes. Steve Smith is willing to change that though. Smith used to be known for being an aggressive teammate, but he has become an honorable man now. On September 8th, Smith washed the feet of 400 homeless men and women – along with that, his goal was to give away 500,000 pairs of shoes. “This is the opportunity for me to give back to serve –- to kind of, really for me, open the next chapter of life,” Smith told FOX News. Getting into the season when the weather is particularly chilly, Smith is humble enough to give the men and women in need something to keep their feet warm. Smith is a well known figure in the NFL – and for him to do something as humble as washing a homeless child’s feet is heart-touching. Smith has been working with Samaritan’s Feet, a nonprofit organization that is working to help 300 million homeless people. Not everyone may have time to help out a person in need, but everyone can make a difference by putting forth the effort to do so.
