Journalism students excel in state contest


The Washington Journalism Education Association’s (WJEA) conference scheduled for March 7th was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.  The photography and write off contests were still held virtually, with the judging done virtually as well. Seven journalism students from Auburn High School won recognition for their skills.  The students and the awards are as follows:

Superior:  Alan Martinez, Newspaper Feature Photography

Excellent:  Sean Bessette, Yearbook Feature Writing

Excellent: Lilly McGee, Yearbook Layout

Excellent: Isaiah Hoagland, Newspaper Sports Photography

Honorable Mention: Jackson Conner, Sports Feature Writing

Honorable Mention: Keilani Martin, Yearbook Sports Photography

Honorable Mention:  Sharlene Pioquinto, Editorial Writing

These seven students have earned a place of honor among all student journalists in the state of Washington.
