In January, sophomore Jenelle Berhorst participated in the Junior Olympics.

She competed in 3 races, the 1000m, 500m and 3k mixed relay. When asked about the 1000m Jenelle said, “I did a lot better than I expected,” however, “I got penalized in the first round so that put me in last.” Jenelle was “really accepted, but I just had to accept that I tried and move on.”

She did very well on the 500m, and “got out of the quarter finals, but didn’t advance to the finals.” She said she “got 9th place anyways and I think that’s really good.”

For the mixed relay, the team consisted of 2 boys and 2 girls. Jenelle said, “My team consisted of the Netherlands, China, Kazakhstan, and myself, the US. We didn’t make it to the finals, but we had a really good time.”

She said the experience was “really fun,” and she “got a taste of the Olympics, which is what I aim to be at one day.”
