After the first portion of the Wednesday staff meeting, the AHS staff posed for a photo taken by Brian Keller. Kelly Jensen first suggested the idea which was eagerly seconded by Mycah Glenn. Glenn proposed that the staff pose for the shot before going to their breakout sessions.

The staff meeting featured a presentation by Dr. Alan Spiccati about the two levies that are on the February ballot.  The faculty then watched the “Danger of a Single Story” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.  The speaker spoke about the danger of seeing things with one story and her own experiences of not being able to see her own reality as worthy of literature until she began to embrace the stories of her Nigerian culture.

During the PD breakout sessions staff were presented with two Culturally Responsive Teaching strategies that can be used with students to help break the mold of the single story.
